Assessment of correlation of economic-valuable traits of corn under irrigation in conditions of Tajikistan

Abstract. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the genotypes of corn grown in various ecological and geographical regions: Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan (IBPPG NAST, Dushanbe, Tajikistan), Scientific Research Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (SRIPGP, Tashkent, Uzbekistan), FSBI RusRDTISC “Rossorgo” (Saratov, Russia), as well as to study the relationship between the yield of these samples and the main economically valuable characteristics. Methods. Field experiments on the study of 18 varieties of corn were conducted during 2023 and 2024 at the experimental site of the Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan (altitude 840 m above sea level). Morphometric measurements, as well as an assessment of yield and elements of its structure, were carried out according to the methodology of State tests; statistical processing of the obtained data – by the method of correlation and regression analysis. Results. It was revealed that the Russian-bred corn genotypes matured 12–19 days earlier than the samples from the IBPPG and SRIPGP NAST. The indicators of all the studied characteristics of the maize cultivars from the IBPPG NAST significantly exceeded the values of the genotypes from the FSBI RusRDTISC “Rossorgo” and the SRIPGP. Nevertheless, the yield of Russian breeding forms exceeded that of Uzbek cultivars. Significant strong correlations have been revealed between grain yield and the weight of 1 cob, the length of the cob, the number of grains in a row, the weight of the grain of one cob, the weight of the core, the number of grains per 1 cob, and the total biomass; the average is between yield and plant height, and the duration of the growing season. Scientific novelty. For the first time, a comparative assessment of grain maize varieties of Russian, Uzbek and Tajik breeding has been carried out and the correlation between grain yield and the main economically valuable characteristics of irrigation in Tajikistan has been identified.
