Abstract. Over the past two decades, the urgent task of developing the Ural Breeding School for spring barley has been to create methods for accelerated breeding of varieties with a high overall adaptive ability to various agro-climatic conditions. The purpose of the study was to briefly evaluate and highlight the most significant studies on barley breeding in the Middle Urals over the past 20 years, which have made a significant contribution to the development of this field. Materials and methods. We used long-term (2005-2025) materials and data from fundamental and applied research on spring barley breeding in the Middle Urals. Results. A new (mechanized) method of laying nurseries at the early stages of breeding has been developed, which reduces the burden on physical labor in preparation for sowing (from 436 to 128 people/hour) and directly during sowing (from 53.2 to 28.0 people/hour), with an economic effect of reducing costs by 3 times. Using an additive mathematical model, for the first time, a method has been developed for differentiating barley yields depending on the effects of quantitative traits varying in the genotype x environment interaction system. At the same time, the problem of low correlations between yield and quantitative characteristics has been solved, and an increase from rхriyi = 0.42...0.92 to rŶrciŶci = 0.91...0.99 has been noted. A new highly adaptive variety of double-row spring barley for feed use called Pamyati Chepeleva has been developed, which for the second year in a row occupies a leading position in the TOP of the best varieties of the Russian Federation in terms of the number of seeds sown (2023 – 76.5 thousand tons; 2024 – 79.1 thousand tons). Scientific novelty. For the first time, a method for differentiating barley yields depending on the effects of quantitative characteristics has been developed to study the processes of formation of biological yield of barley in different periods of growth and development. A unique breeding material has been created.
