Abstract. The purpose of the study is an agroecological assessment of the adaptability of spring durum wheat varieties based on environmental testing data in the Southern Urals. Methods. The research was based on a field experiment conducted according to the methodology of state variety testing of agricultural crops at the Troitskoye experimental field in the southern forest-steppe of the Chelyabinsk region in 2022–2024. A comparative assessment of the most common spring durum wheat varieties in the region was conducted using the methodological recommendations. Results. The years of research were contrasting, characterized by aridity in the phases of development of spring durum wheat, the values of the hydrothermal coefficient varied from 0.12 to 2.4. The uneven precipitation during the growing season had a negative impact on the productivity of durum wheat. In the course of the research, the average annual yield, agroecological adaptability of varieties, the relative value of the yield index of the variety, the yield index of varieties, the index of the conditions of the year, the degree of responsiveness of the variety, and the depression of the yield of the variety were evaluated. The minimum value of the degree of depression in the yield of durum millet grain was found in the Shukshinka variety (25.6 %). The highest degree of depression was found in the ATP Prima variety (48 %). As a result of calculations, a group of agroecological adaptability of each variety was established. Varieties with a high degree of agroecological adaptivity have been identified: Zhemchuzhina Sibiri, Shukshinka and Omskiy tsirkon. In terms of grain quality, the Larisa amber variety has a great advantage in terms of vitreousness, protein and gluten content. Scientific novelty. For the first time, this method was used to assess the agroecological characteristics of spring durum wheat varieties developed by the Samara Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Omsk Agrarian Research Center, the Federal Altai Research Center for Agribiotecnologies, and the Chelyabinsk Research Institute of Agriculture, which are recommended for the Ural region.
