Abstract. In the breeding process, genotypes are studied in the conditions where breeding is carried out, as the same variety can behave differently in different natural conditions. The study of early-ripening potato varieties in the contrasting weather conditions of the Northern Trans-Urals is relevant, as it is important to select varieties that are easily adaptable to arid areas. The purpose of this research is to study the drought resistance and adaptability of early-ripening potatoes in the conditions of the Northern Trans-Urals. Methods. The research was conducted in 2022–2024 at the experimental site of the Scientific Research Institute of the Northern Trans-Urals, a branch of the Tyumen Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The object was 9 early-maturing varieties of Russian (Zhukovskiy ranniy, Meteor, Mishka, Novichok, Isetskiy), German (Bellarosa, Queen Anna) and Dutch breeding (Red Scarlett, Labella). The calculations used methods for assessing environmental plasticity and adaptability. The rankings were carried out according to five indices of drought resistance (MR, TOL, YSI, DI, STI) of potatoes. Results. In terms of productivity for all years, Labella (27 t/ha) and Bellarosa (25.1 t/ha) proved to be at the level of the standard Zhukovskiy ranniy variety (27.1 t/ha). The most plastic potato varieties were identified: Labella (1.9), Red Scarlett (1.7) and Isetskiy (1.2). According to the results of a three-year comprehensive assessment under the influence of stressful abiotic and biotic environmental factors, potato genotypes characterized by maximum indicators of environmental sustainability were identified: Bellarosa, Zhukovskiy ranniy, Mishka and Labella. Scientific novelty. For the first time in the northern forest-steppe of the Tyumen Region, studies were conducted on the drought resistance and adaptability of early-ripening potato varieties, and potato genotypes were selected for further breeding for drought resistance.
