Sustainable development of agro-industrial complex based on innovations

Abstract. Relevance. The development of innovative potential and the implementation of innovations is becoming critically important for organizations in the agro-industrial complex in light of increasing sanctions pressure. The methodology employed in the article comprises a range of general and mathematical methods typically associated with scientific research, including comparative analysis of statistical reports, grouping and summary, modelling, and the use of expert questionnaires. The study included two stages: the first involved analyzing the indicators of official statistics describing the innovative activities of agricultural organizations. The second involved assessing the innovative potential of Sverdlovsk Region agricultural organizations based on the indicators and criteria of private innovative potential developed by the authors. Results. The current and prospective state of the agro-industrial complex in Russia, based on an examination of official statistical data. It is demonstrated that, despite the expansion of specific sectors, this economic sector is behind the average reference values in terms of innovation activity. The innovation potential of organizations within the agro-industrial complex of the Sverdlovsk region, employing both integral and partial assessments. The final sample for the study comprised 37 organizations within the Sverdlovsk region’s agro-industrial complex. The relationship between the innovation potential and the innovation activity of organizations has been revealed, which is positive, while there is a lag of three years. The components of the innovation potential are highlighted, it is established that the least developed are human, infrastructural and managerial potential. Actions to strengthen and develop them are a priority, and they can increase the innovation activity of industry organizations. The scientific novelty of the study consists in the development and testing of a model for assessing the integrated innovative potential of agricultural organizations, and in the empirical identification of a positive relationship between the level of innovative activity and the magnitude of innovative potential with a time lag of three years.
