Abstract. Ensuring food security in the context of trade and economic sanctions and accelerated import substitution is the main priority of the state agro-food policy. This problem is most acute in regions with extreme natural conditions, which require additional investments for the development of agricultural production. The purpose of the scientific work is to identify current problems and promising areas for ensuring food security in the Far Eastern Federal District in the current economic and geopolitical conditions. Research methods. To achieve this purpose, the study used such methods as analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, monographic, statistical. Results. The article considers the features and problems of agricultural development in the Far Eastern Federal District as the basis for ensuring its food security. It is concluded that the region has lost its food independence. The risks and threats to food security in the region have been systematized. Based on the analysis of existing state programs in the field of food security in the Far Eastern Federal District, the insufficient effectiveness of these regulatory documents and the impossibility of achieving the set goals in the face of new challenges were revealed. In the current situation, an important aspect is the development of new approaches to the implementation of agro-food policy in the region, taking into account such features of its development as severe natural and climatic conditions, a difficult demographic situation, a shortage of personnel in agricultural production, and remoteness from the central regions. The scientific novelty. It consists in the development of proposals to improve food security in the Far Eastern Federal District, taking into account the principles of the new Doctrine of Food Security: ensuring physical and economic accessibility of food, as well as high quality and safety of food.
