Abstract. The purpose of the study is to calculate the scientifically sound economic parameters of optimal terms of productive use of dairy cows (using the example of the Kaluga region). The research was conducted at the Kaluga Research Institute of Agricultural Sciences, a branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Federal Potato Research Center named after A. G. Lorch” in 2024, the scientific direction of research is economics and organization, according to the methods: edited by academician V. R. Boev, E. V. Fastova et al., I. G. Ushachev et al. Scientific novelty. For the first time in the Kaluga region, the calculation of scientifically based economic parameters of optimal terms of productive use of dairy cows at the current level of productivity has been carried out, which will allow managers and specialists of farms to more effectively plan and manage in modern conditions. As a result of calculations of the standard payback period for the input of first-born heifers into the herd according to two research options (subject to on-farm repairs and when buying breeding heifers), data of 8 months and 13.5 months of lactation were obtained. The standard level of productivity, which determines the break-even point of milk production, is a value of 6000 kg. Based on the actual performance of the industry, the payback period for the achieved productivity level of 9274 kg was 20.5 months in the first version of the study and 24 months in the second version, with the break-even point being 6800 kg. The study analyzed three farms in the region with cow productivity in 2023: 5545, 8300 and 9163 kg, the payback period in these farms was 25 months (only 1st option), 25.3 months (only 1st option), 25 months (1st option) and 30.8 months (2nd option), respectively. at break-even points with a productivity of 4600, 6240, and 6400 kg of milk.
Keywords: dairy cows, milk productivity, productive longevity, payback periods, breakeven point
