Abstract. The article is devoted to a comprehensive study of issues of artificial forestry and ensuring the necessary volumes of planting material in established requirements. The purpose of this study is to assess the new trends of compensation forestry and its commercial attractiveness on the example of the Trans-Baikal Territory. The object of the study is artificial forestry in the Trans-Baikal Territory. The subject is an analysis of the development of compensation forestry by seedlings with a closed root system. Methods. The work used data for the period from 2018 to 2023. Of the open sources – the Federal Forestry Agency of the Russian Federation and the Federal State Statistics Service, as well as provided at the request from the State Forestry Service of the Trans-Baikal Territory and received during expeditionary work from commercial structures offering forestry services. The average cost of artificial forestry by private companies in Russia for 2022–2023 is analyzed, which is 180–350 thousand rubles. The results indicate that in the region, forestry measures for 3 years were carried out on an area of 132.3 thousand hectares, of which 8.9 thousand hectares were the area of artificial forestry. The volume of plantings using seedlings with a closed root system increased 5 times and reached 32% of the area of compensation forestry in 2023. The scientific novelty of the studies consists in identifying the formation of a new type of entrepreneurial activity aimed at restoring forests, their useful functions and biodiversity as a whole. The main performers of forestry and forestry are both state structures and representatives of private business.
