Abstract. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the promising variety of spring barley, Elisey, based on its economic and biological characteristics and properties. Materials and methods. The study used long-term (2014– 2024) materials and data from fundamental and applied research on the breeding of spring barley in the Middle Urals. Results. The breeding process for creating the variety took eleven years. Forced hybridization was carried out in 2014, with the Omsk 95 barley variety as the mother form and the Veresk variety as the father form. As a result of individual and family selection in the conditions of the South-West of the Sverdlovsk Region (Krasnoufimsk), a new genotype with a complex of economically valuable traits was obtained that surpasses the standards (Pamyati Chepeleva and Acha) in the following indicators: plant height (80 cm), yield (6.32 t/ha), number of grains per spike (21.5), weight of 1 000 grains (46.9 g), and specific gravity (705 g/l). Morphological characteristics correspond to the botanical variety Hordeum vulgare. L., var. Nutans. Based on the results of long-term selection and competitive variety testing (2022-2024), it was decided to transfer it for state variety testing for economic suitability in the following regions: Volga-Vyatka (4), Central Black Earth (5), Middle Volga (7), Ural (9), and West Siberian (10). The vegetation period lasts for 80 days. It belongs to the group of mid-season varieties, is droughtresistant, medium-sized (67–90 cm), and technologically advanced (resistance to lodging (5 points), and hull content (9.4–10.9 %). During the competitive variety testing, the average yield was 6.32 t/ha, which is 0.77 t/ha higher than the standard Pamyati Chepeleva and 0.72 t/ha higher than Achi. The maximum yield of the promising genotype was observed in 2023 and amounted to 7.36 t/ha. According to the grain quality, it is declared as a grain forage variety by the State Commission. The maximum protein content in grain is 11.5 %. It is resistant to reticular spotting in the field. Intensive, responsive to an increased agrotechnical background, the recommended seeding rate is 5.5 million tons. germinating grains per hectare. Scientific novelty. A new medium-ripe variety of spring barley, Elisey, has been created, with a complex of positive economic and biological signs and properties.
