Abstract. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the productivity and biochemical characteristics of potato varieties, different maturation periods, grown in the soil and climatic conditions of the foothills of the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania. The study was conducted in the field in 2023–2024, making it possible to assess productivity in the natural environment. A comprehensive study of the biochemical parameters and yields of various potato varieties was carried out using the following methods: the methodology of field experience, the methodology of the state variety testing of agricultural crops, methodological guidelines on the technology of the potato breeding process. In the potato collection nursery of the Vladikavkaz Scientific Center, 40 varieties were tested, differing in different maturation periods: early, medium-early, medium-ripe and medium-late. The foothill zone of the North Caucasus region is characterized by specific soil and climatic conditions, including complex terrain, diverse temperature conditions, and uneven precipitation distribution. These conditions affect the growth and development of potatoes, their biochemical composition and yield. According to the results of the research, potato varieties with high yields and marketability were identified: Konkurent – 46.1 t/ha, Meteor – 41.0 t/ha, Alena – 30.8 t/ha, Gulliver – 33.0 t/ ha, Izyuminka – 36.9 t/ha, Mayak – 32.2 t/ha, Nevskiy – 33.2 t/ha, Alaniуa – 48.1 t/ha, Krasa Meshchery – 40.5 t/ ha, Bizon – 30.8 t/ha. Laboratory studies have identified varieties with a high starch content (over 15 %) and dry matter (over 20 %): Ariel’, Vzryvnoy, Terra, Udacha, Babushka, Dochka, Izyuminka, Mayak, Kalinka, Samba, Gorskiy, Alyaska, Alaniya, Zlatka, Tango, Bizon, Fiagdon, Sorokinskiy. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that in the conditions of the foothill zone of the North Caucasus, an agroecological assessment of promising potato varieties, Russian originators, was given for further use of the results of the assessment of varieties in seed production and potato breeding.

Keywords: varieties, potatoes, agroecological testing, ripening period, productivity, starch, dry matter, comparative assessment
