Abstract. All cultivars of pears and quinces belong to different species, therefore, the reliable fusion of components in graft-rootstock combinations of this kind is determined by their mutual compatibility, which is already evident in the nursery. The selection, study and determination of the most promising and reliable designs of pear cultivars on a dwarf rootstock will make it possible to cultivate orchards using intensive technologies in the conditions of the central part of Russia. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the compatibility between pear cultivars and quince seed stocks of VNIISPK breeding by showing signs of positive and negative graft concretion in nursery conditions. The selection of promising graft-rootstock combinations of pears will make it possible to plant dwarf orchards with high precocity in the conditions of the central part of Russia. Methods. The study was carried out in 2023–2024 in the VNIISPK nursery using 13 pear cultivars. The grafting of two-year-old quince seedlings with pear cultivars was carried out in 3-fold repetition of 11 plants each. The compatibility was assessed by the visual method according to the main signs described in the works of Korovin (1979) and according to the Program and Methodology of Variety Study of Fruit, Berry and Nut Crops (1999). Scientific novelty. The selection of promising pear graft-rootstock combinations for industrial production in the central part of Russia on an intensive dwarf rootstock and their study is being conducted for the first time. Results. Taking into account the results of previous studies in this area, the list of pear cultivars compatible with quince has been supplemented with the following ones: ‘Allegro’, ‘Harrow Sweet’, ‘Yablokovidnaya’ and ‘Dobryanka’. Negative affinity with the rootstock was noted in pears: ‘Esmeralda’, ‘Rozovyy Bochonok’, ‘Yablunivska’ and ‘Beurré Clairgeau’. Their cultivation on common quince with direct inoculation is inadvisable. ‘Fevralskiy Suvenir’, ‘Aleksandra’ and ‘Delbarayu’ showed high viability on quince seedlings, but the yield and quality of the planting material is inferior to compatible graftrootstock combinations.
