Abstract. In Russia, the state is actively working to introduce digital accounting systems for agricultural products and agricultural land. As a rule, their need is justified from the point of view of increasing labor productivity, minimizing the “human factor” in data collection, recording and control. At the same time, the emphasis on counteracting digital systems to the development of the shadow economy is not always clearly placed, although it suggests itself in terms of its functionality. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the role of federal state information systems (FSIS) in the combat against the shadow economy in Russian agriculture. Methods: sociological survey, systematization, and other general logical methods of scientific knowledge. The scientific novelty lies in the substantiation of the capabilities of FSIS to reduce the shadow economy in the agricultural sector of Russia, taking into account the problems arising during their use. Results. The paper reveals the practical possibilities of the FSIS of the Russian Federation specialized in agriculture to reduce the shadow economy in agriculture. Identification and suppression of shadow operations mainly occur through improved control and monitoring of production processes and product circulation based on increasing the reliability and completeness of the collected data. The sociological survey of farmers about the experience of using FSIS made it possible to establish that, on farmers’ opinion, FSIS reduce shadow turnover in agriculture. At the same time, the use of FSIS by farmers is associated with a set of user problems that can increase incentives for shadow trading. The arising problems mainly relate to stability of the registration processes and the user interface, as well as the need to manually enter a large amount of data.
