Abstract. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes occurring in tissues and cells as they age, such as changes in protein expression and aging markers, as well as to examine age-related pathological conditions. Methods. Porcine organ tissues were examined with age using a combination of modern histological and immunohistochemical methods. General morphological assessment and identification of excessive connective tissue growth at sites of organ parenchymal destruction or metaplasia were performed using Mallory staining. Hematoxylin-basic fuchsin-picric acid (HBFP) staining was used to detect myocardial damage. The scientific novelty of this study lies in the use of a combination of histochemical methods to describe gerontological changes occurring in the tissues and cells of commercially raised pigs. Results. It has been established that suckling and weaned piglets show no signs of structural and functional organ degeneration. However, localized pathological processes, likely congenital, are observed in the myocardium and kidneys. In growing and finishing piglets, an inflammatory reaction in the duodenum and concomitant changes in the liver were detected, which may be associated with a change in feeding regimen. Initial signs of gerontological changes and emaciation are observed in piglets starting at three months of age, becoming more pronounced in mature sows aged 3-4 years. A study of premature structural and functional degeneration of tissues and organs in pigs revealed the following changes: connective tissue proliferation in the stroma of parenchymal organs, fatty metaplasia, and disturbances in the microcirculation system (proliferation of vascular wall elements, perivascular edema, thrombosis, and lymphostasis).
