Abstract. In the conditions of the steppe zone of the Kostanay region, characterized by risky farming, moisture deficiency, and increasing processes of wind erosion, it is relevant to search for and implement resource-saving soil cultivation systems. Traditional ploughing leads to degradation of the humus horizon, a decrease in soil fertility and biological activity. The purpose of the research is to evaluate the impact of various resource-saving methods of basic soil cultivation in a crop rotation on changes in biological activity and the content of available nutrients in ordinary chernozem in the conditions of the Kostanay region. Methods. The research was conducted in a longterm stationary experiment on the fields of the Kostanay Research Institute of Agriculture. Agrochemical analysis of nutrient content (N-NO3 , N-NH4 , P2 O5 , K2 O) was performed using standard methods (Chirikov, Kirsanov, Maslova). Yield was measured using continuous threshing from sample plots. Mathematical data processing was performed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) using Statistica and Excel. Results. The paper presents the results of long-term studies on the effect of various methods of primary tillage in a crop rotation system on the agrochemical and biological properties of the common black soil in the Kostanay region. The dependence of the intensity of microbiological processes (respiration, cellulolytic activity, nitrogen fixation) and the dynamics of readily hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus, and exchangeable potassium on the applied cultivation system was established. Scientific novelty. For the first time, the productivity of crops in a crop rotation (wheat, peas, and oilseed flax) was assessed depending on the studied agricultural practices.
