Comprehensive assessment of spring barley collection varieties by productivity and adaptability in the conditions of the Northern Urals

Abstract. Meteorological conditions during the growing season are crucial for the formation of crops in the Northern Trans-Urals region. The purpose of the research is to study collectible varieties of spring barley according to a set of economically valuable traits and adaptivity parameters, to identify the best cultivars for use in breeding. Materials and methods. Field studies were conducted in the northern forest-steppe zone of the Tyumen region at the Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture of the Northern Trans-Urals in 2016–2023. The material for the study was 70 collectible varieties of spring barley, the standard variety Abalak. The following indicators were calculated: intensity coefficient (I), indicator of breeding value (IBV), indicators of stress resistance and genetic flexibility, genotypic effect (Ɛi ), coefficient of responsiveness (Cr). The analysis revealed varieties with an average early ripening period of Abalak, Acha, Shukran, Omskiy 96 (68‒71 days); coarse-grained high-yielding varieties Cerbinetta (Germany), Mogunty (Belarus), Grace (Germany), Margret (Germany) (556–641 g/m2 ). As a result of a comprehensive assessment, the most adaptive varieties of spring barley were identified for use in breeding Abalak (I = 80.1; Cr = 2.3; stress resistance 415; Ɛi = 25; IBV = 238), Mogunty (I = 94.0; Cr = 2.8; stress resistance 402; Ɛi = 99; IBV = 232), Bagret (I = 102; Cr = 3.1; stress resistance 400; Ɛi = 46; IBV = 189), Grace (I = 89; Cr = 2.6; stress resistance 400; Ɛi = 90; IBV = 230). Scientific novelty. A comprehensive assessment of 70 varieties of spring oats in terms of yield and adaptive ability parameters has been carried out, and the most promising ones that can be recommended in breeding work have been identified.
