Abstract. The purpose of the study was to study the effects of elements of cultivation technology on the photosynthetic activity of potatoes in the forest-steppe zone of the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania. Methods. The research was conducted from 2023 to 2025 on the experimental field of the North Caucasian Research Institute of Mountain and Piedmont Agriculture of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The soil of the experimental site is medium-heavy loamy chernozem, which has been leached and has a slightly acidic reaction. The design of the field experiment, data analysis, and the organization of the research findings were carried out in accordance with established methods. Results. The study showed that pre-sowing treatment of potato tubers of Farn and Nevskiy varieties with “Mival-Agro” and “Geoton” biologics has a statistically significant increase in biometric indicators of plants compared to controls on all experimental options, on average: the height of the stems is 4.4–4.9 cm, the number of stems is 0.3–0.5 pcs/bush, the number of leaves is 2.8–3.2 pcs/bush, the mass of tops is 31.7–16 g/bush. Changes in the dynamics of physiological processes in the studied potato varieties under the conditions of the forest-steppe zone have a significant impact on the accumulation of total dry matter at different growth phases, which ultimately affects the yield. Pre-sowing treatment of potato tubers with biological preparations contributed to an increase in leaf surface area (for the Farn variety – 35.50 thousand m²/ha, for the Nevskiy variety – 32.89 thousand m2 /ha) and its maintenance in an active state throughout the entire growing season, compared to the control. The greatest positive effect of the biological preparations on photosynthesis indicators was noted with the complex treatment of potato tubers of the studied varieties. Thus, for the Farn variety, the total photosynthetic potential was 2164, for the Nevskiy variety – 2116 thousand m2 /ha days thousand m2 /ha days, which, respectively, is 778, 754 thousand m2 /ha × days thousand more than the control variant. The scientific novelty lies in the study of the effectiveness of the new generation growth regulator “Mival-Agro” and the “Geoton” micro-fertilizer on the photosynthetic activity of Farn and Nevskiy potatoes to increase the yield and quality of their tubers in the forest-steppe zone of the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania.
