Abstract. The purpose of the study was to determine the most significant changes in the electrocardiogram of dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Research methods. The study included 143 dogs with clinical signs of dilated cardiomyopathy. The age of animals was from 1 year to 15 years. All dogs that were in the study underwent clinical examination, echocardiography and electrocardiography. Scientific novelty. The most common types of cardiac arrhythmias in dogs with DCM have been identified, along with breed-specific features of arrhythmia progression. Based on the examination of 143 dogs with DCM, the clinical signs were justified depending on the stage of the disease, with the interpretation of clinical criteria. The necessity of early detection of structural changes in the heart using ultrasonography and electrocardiography has been demonstrated. It has been substantiated that the signs of left ventricular failure at stage C determine the primary goals of therapy. Results. Arrhythmias in DCM dogs had an unfavorable prognosis, as dogs with ventricular tachycardia had a higher risk of sudden death. The presence of atrial fibrillation was associated with more severe left atrial dilation and a worse prognosis.
