Abstract. Dynamically changing external and internal factors of the functioning of the Russian agro-food complex and its product chains, adaptation to new challenges and overcoming their negative consequences determine the relevance of scientific research in the field of competitive stability. The purpose of the research is to assess the competitive stability of the Russian meat production chain and identify priorities for strengthening it in the face of new global challenges. Methods. In the course of the research, methods of complex and systematic analysis and comparative analysis were used. Results. The strengthening of state support for the Russian meat production chain has made it possible to form a raw material base for the development of precocious industries (poultry and pork production), to carry out technical modernization of production, and to introduce modern technologies. This has affected the performance of the chain. The level of self-sufficiency in meat and meat products increased from 74.0 % in 2011 to 101.2 % in 2023, with average annual consumption from 71 kg to 81 kg, respectively. The formed competitive advantages have ensured the competitive stability of meat and meat products producers in the domestic market. The necessity of transition from an import-substituting to an export-oriented strategy for the development of individual segments of the chain is substantiated. The growth of the coefficient of balance of foreign trade activity for the main types of meat indicates the strengthening of the competitiveness of Russian poultry and pork producers in the foreign market. Based on the identified features of beef meat production, the use of a targeted approach for government support of this segment of the meat product chain is justified. The scientific novelty of the research results consists in analyzing the factors of increasing the competitive stability of the Russian meat production chain, substantiating competitive advantages that ensure the competitive stability of the country’s meat production chain under the influence of destabilizing external shocks.
